5 Cricket Teams that can Win the T20 World Cup 2021 (UAE & Oman)

This tournament, the ICC World T20 or in the common public’s understanding, the T20 World Cup was supposed to happen last year in Australia. But, just like any other major sporting event this too has to get postponed due to COVID-19. Now after almost 11 months of the originally scheduled tournament the T20 World Cup will be conducted in UAE and Oman and it will be hosted by India. This is probably the first tournament hosted by India outside India and all because of COVID-19.

Just like any other major ICC tournament, there are some certain possible winners and some possible dark horses as well. Even T20 World Cup 2021 (UAE & Oman) has a few favorites that can lift the trophy on 14th November, Sunday. Let us check out the names of 5 cricket teams that can win the T20 World Cup 2021 (UAE & Oman).

While coming up with these possibilities we have taken the respective strong T20 infrastructure in these countries and certain match-winner players in their ranks. So, let us start the hunt for the champions of the ICC World T20 (UAE & Oman).

Pakistan (Captain: Babar Azam)

The chances of Pakistan winning this trophy are very high this time around. With Babar Azam at the helm and Pakistan Super League (PSL) experienced players in the team, Pakistan can certainly pose some threat to other teams. Babar Azam is not only one of the best cricketers we have around, but he is also the best T20 player as well. Along with another strong and master blaster like Mohammad Rizwan, the wicketkeeper in the team Pakistan’s batting lineup is really strong.

Rizwan who normally opens the innings can change the match within the first 6 (power play) overs. With a strong batting line up the bowlers like Shaheen Shah Afridi, Hasan Ali, and Shadab Khan (who can bat a bit also) can demolish any batting attack on their day. All-rounder Imad Wasim and the old-pro Mohammad Hafeez (the Professor) can also give nightmares to the opposition.

Australia (Captain: Aaron Finch)

We can call Australia ‘the dark horse’ of this tournament for sure. Despite remained world-beaters in Tests and One Day International formats for years Australia has yet to make their mark in T20Is. Yes, they have won a few T20Is here and there but they are yet to win an ICC World T20 tournament and who knows this time around in the UAE and Oman Australia’s fortunes turn and that helps them to win their first-ever T20 World Cup?

If we look at the Australian squad for the tournament we don’t get convinced that this team can actually lift the trophy at the end of this tournament. Aaron Finch who is at the helm has shown inconsistent form till now and so have Steven Smith and David Warner who are three of the most experienced and dependable batsmen on the side. ‘Mad Max’ or Glenn Maxwell can win you the game any day but that day arrives normally far and in between. In bowling, Pat Cummins will take the entire load along with Michael Starc. We are considering Aussies as one of the possible winners of the T20 World Cup 2021 (UAE & Oman) just because they got Big Bash League one of the strongest infrastructures to back their claim.

Now let us see the top 3 cricket teams that can certainly win the T20 World Cup 2021 in Dubai and Oman, because not only they got the best T20 infrastructure in their respective countries but also got the necessary firepower as well.

England (Captain: Eoin Morgan)

With the 2019 ICC World Cup in the bag, England has finally thrown the monkey from their backs and now they are ready to win and challenge any other ICC tournament that can come to their way. England is the inventor of the T20 format but somehow it took a bit of time for them to come to terms with T20I, but now they are certainly on the right track and they are one of the favorites to win this tournament.

Eoin Morgan, Dawid Malan who is also the No.1 T20I player, Jonny Bairstow, and Jos Buttler have the potential to blast away any bowling attack. If that is not enough then Liam Livingston and Moin Ali, the all-rounders can put the final nail in the opposition’s coffin with their quickfire batting.  Sam Curran, Mark Wood, Chris Woaks are in good bowling form always in T20s as they play a few T20 Leagues around the world.

West Indies (Captain: Kieron Pollard)

If you want to describe the West Indies squad declared for the T20 World Cup 2021 (UAE & Oman), you can call it a one-way traffic-like team. Why we are calling them one-way traffic like a team because it knows only one thing, attack, attack, and more attack. For more often than not this kind of strategy has benefitted them but there are times when it has failed. Still, we consider two times ICC World T20 champions one of the top 3 contenders this time.

As we said the attacking batsmen like Nicholas Pooran, Kieron Pollard, Andre Fletcher, Shimron Hetmyer, and of course the Universe Boss Chris Gayle on their day can register big wins. With the intelligent bowling of Dwayne Bravo and supported by Obed McCoy, Hayden Walsh Jr. and Oshane Thomas who have tons of experience of playing T20 through their Caribbean Premier League of CPL have in them to restrict any batting order and can bring the taste of victory. Watch out for West Indies!

India (Captain: Virat Kohli)

Winning the second T20 World Cup trophy is now long overdue for Team India. They won the inaugural edition of this tournament and since then they have not been able to bring the cup home. So, this time Virat Kohli and his team will put their best to win this tournament again, not only because India hasn’t won it for 14 years but also because this will be the last few T20Is for Virat Kohli as the captain for this format.

Indian batting line-up in T20Is revolves around its captain and vice-captain, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. If these two get going then there is no chance for the opposition to make any comeback in the game. Plus they have youngsters like Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, and KL Rahul who are masters in putting big scores on the scoreboard. With bowling all-rounders like Ravindra Jadeja, Hardik Pandya, and Axar Patel Indian squad looks much more balanced than any other team in this tournament. Jaspreet Bumrah, Mohammad Shami, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Ravichandran Ashwin will provide the bowling power that can help them to take big and good wickets at an appropriate time.
