Half of the Ahmedabad Citizens are Fully Vaccinated Now: Report

Ahmedabad (Central Gujarat): Gujarat’s largest megacity Ahmedabad’s citizens have achieved an admirable feat as half of them are now fully vaccinated against Corona (COVID 19). As per a report published on the web portal of Gujarati Daily Divya Bhaskar, a total of 23.30 lakh citizens have been given the second dose to date and 45.75 lakh Amdavadis have got their first dose as well.

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has initiated many vaccination programs including ‘vaccination at the doorstep’. This has increased the numbers and percentage of anti-corona vaccination in multiple folds. The in-charge health officer for AMC, Dr. Bhavin Solanki has told the news portal that by Dusserah, which falls on 15th October, 50% of Ahmedabad citizens will be fully vaccinated and their aim is to make the entire Ahmedabad city fully vaccinated before Diwali. Diwali will be celebrated in India on the 4th of November 2021.

This will also ensure that the people of Ahmedabad can enjoy the mega festival of Diwali with utmost safety and without any fear of getting infected. Dr. Solanki added that those who have not got the second dose of the anti-corona vaccine despite their due date have been passed, are being contacted on their phones by the Municipal Corporation of Ahmedabad’s health department.

Out of 46.24 lakh citizens of the city whose age is above 18 years old, only 50,000 of them haven’t taken the second dose and they have been called to take the dose every day.

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has taken many initiatives to make its citizen fully vaccinated in which both AMTS (Ahmedabad Municipal Transport Services) and BRTS bus stands are made vaccination centers, where almost 1000 people are getting vaccinated every day. Apart from that, there is a special helpline created for Vaccination Ghar Seva service in which the person who is above the age of 50 can contact the AMC health department via phone call or through their website and can get vaccinated at home. Divyangs above 18 years of age can also avail of this service as per AMC.

After the initial poor response at the time of the launch of the vaccine, the vaccination drive took speed especially during and after the second wave of COVID-19 that created havoc across the state of Gujarat. Plus Gujarat Government’s tireless efforts and various initiatives also made a huge difference in the vaccination drive. Not only Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation but for other Municipal Corporations and Panchayats of Gujarat also made many efforts to make Gujaratis fully vaccinated at the earliest.

All the Public Health Centers, Urban Health Centers remained busy the whole day on the birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 17th September. From early morning till almost midnight health workers and doctors across Ahmedabad and Gujarat made people vaccinated, along with make-shift vaccination centers at public places like bus stations, airports, community halls, and railway stations.

More and more Amdavadis will get vaccinated in the near future as today government gave permission for the emergency usage of Bharat Biotech’s COVAXIN for children. The age group of 2-18 years old can now get protection against COVID-19 once the vaccinations start for them.
